This presentation for Things That Changed the World was showcased at the book fair, where we received the positive feedback and proposed sales needed to move forward with publication. This was an exciting project that allowed us to simplify the content on each page, compared to other books being published at the time, focusing on beautifully researched, singular images and presenting them in a fresh, impactful way. The design was both dynamic and powerful, with the Chicago font used throughout as a nod to the first desktop publishing software.
One of my favorite elements was the space suit which spanned two pages for maximum surprise and impact. Other standout features included a unique overhead view of the Ford Model T, the image of a catseye road reflector, and an individual take on an early Apple computer.
I designed this cover with typography inspired by the classic Shock of the New TV series, as both explore similar themes. The front cover features a transparent holofoil over the light bulb, with light blue foil blocking to add an extra dimension to the type. To make these elements pop, the rest of the cover has a matte finish. The spine offers a bold contrast in hot pink, while the back cover incorporates the overlaying type effect from the front and spine, creating a dynamic frame that houses the copy and images.
